Émile Prisse d'Avennes, the preeminent orientalist, labored fifteen years to compile one of the most complete records on ancient Egypt (1847). An accomplished draftsman, engineer, and architect, d'Avennes lived in and traveled extensively throughout Egypt, recording in painstaking detail artifacts that have long since been either mutilated or destroyed. This virtual frame is inspired from images in d'Avennes' book in the Brooklyn Museum of Art Library Collection, the fifth largest art museum library in the nation.
