The ancient Egyptians believed that their gods could take the form of animals. The cat goddess Bastet was a friendly guardian. This virtual frame was inspired by one of the Museum's wooden cat sculptures made during the Late Period (circa 745-332 B.C.) reportedly from Saqqara. The original statuette's eyes are inlaid in blue glass and bronze.
